Stormwater Documents
Stormwater runoff is generated from rain and snow melt that flows over land or impervious surfaces and does not percolate into the ground. As the runoff flows over the land or impervious surfaces (paved streets, parking lots, and building rooftops), it accumulates debris, chemicals, sediment, or other pollutants that could adversely affect water quality if the runoff is untreated.
Stormwater drains directly into ditches and ultimately to area streams, rivers, and lakes. The system serves to carry rainwater off urban streets, parking lots, construction sites, neighborhoods, and agricultural lands. As the water runs off these surfaces, various pollutants including oils, dirt, pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer are carried into our storm drains.
How can you make a difference?
Here are a few ways you can help keep stormwater clean:

- Do not blow or sweep grass clippings into the drainage system.
