Police Hiring Eligibility Requirements
Applicant must
- be at least 21 years of age
- be a citizen of the United States
- have at minimum a high school diploma
- have been honorably discharged from any military service or be able to provide proof of acceptable military re-enlistment eligibility if prior service is uncharacterized
- posses a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
- be of good moral character
- be able to work shift work, holidays, and weekends, as required
- have the ability to read and comprehend training materials, departmental policies, rules, regulations, laws, and ordinances
- have the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees and the public
- have the ability to learn the use and care of specialized police equipment, including firearms
- possess 20/20 vision, either corrected or uncorrected, in each eye. Vision may be corrected by the use of contact lenses or eyeglasses which must be worn on duty and during all law enforcement related activities. Applicant must be free of dichromatic color blindness, night blindness, and any other serious vision deficiencies or limitations
- pass a hearing test
Applicant must not have
- been convicted of an offense of family violence
- been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any offense the grade of a class B misdemeanor or above within the past 10 years
- been convicted of an offense the grade of a class B misdemeanor or above within the past 10 years
- any criminal charges pending or be presently under indictment for any criminal offense
- had a license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement suspended or revoked
