Public Records Requests

The public has the right to request access to City records for public inspection or to obtain copies of records already in existence. A governmental body is not required to create new information, conduct legal research, or answer questions. Requests for information are required to be in writing, in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act. The City of Corinth processes requests via an online portal that allows the requester to track the request and download any responsive records, by mail, or email.  Sometimes fees apply. Should the fee be in excess of $40, a cost estimate will be provided. Fees are charged in accordance with the Texas Administrative Code. The mail address is 3300 Corinth Parkway, Suite 210, Corinth, TX 76208.

Pursuant to Section 552.234(c) of the Government Code, a governmental entity may designate one mailing address and one electronic mail address for receiving written requests for public information. The governmental body shall provide the designated mailing address and electronic mailing address to any person on request. The City Manager has designated the Office of the City Secretary as the designee for receiving all requests made to the City of Corinth, for public information. The Texas Public Information Act is only activated if the request is directed to that person. The City of Corinth is not responsible for responding to emailed and faxed requests sent to any person other than the City Secretary.

Texas Public Information Act

Per Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code, the Texas Public Information Act (the “Act”) requires government agencies to make documents and information available to the public by either copying or inspection, that is held by or for a governmental body if it owns or has a right of access to the information, except for the information that the Act exempts or prohibits from disclosure.

Per the Act, the City has ten (10) business days to do one of the following:

  • Respond to the request
  • Notify the requester when the records will be available
  • Request clarification from a requester
  • Send a request for a ruling to withhold from the Attorney General’s Office

Holidays and weekends are not included in the ten days and we cannot expedite requests.
